How do I make an Appointment?
You can make an appointment by calling us or emailing us.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
You must fill out two forms before your first visit with OBGYN of North Haven. You can choose to fill out both convenient secure online forms or download the printable forms, fill them out and bring them with you for your next visit with us.

Do I need insurance?.
Please contact us to discuss your current insurance so that we may review your options

What kinds of tests are required during my pregnancy?
You will be asked to have routine blood work following your first visit. This will test for anemia, bladder infection, hepatitis, syphilis, rubella, and blood type.

In addition, the State of Connecticut requires that you be offered HIV testing. If you decline, the baby will be tested after birth, except in the case of religious objection. Prenatal treatment of HIV significantly reduces the transmission from mother to fetus.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) testing is available to you on a voluntary basis. CF is a genetic disorder resulting in problems with breathing and digestion. Women and men of European Caucasian descent and Ashkenazi Jewish descent have the highest chance of being a carrier. Both parents must be carriers in order to have a child with CF.

First Trimester Screening is an optional test offered at approximately 12 weeks of pregnancy. The combination of blood work and ultrasound can estimate the chances that your baby will have Downs Syndrome or Trisomy 18. First trimester screening can detect 80-90% of these disorders, with a 5% false positive rate.

A similar blood test, Quad Screening, is available at 15-18 weeks should you decline this test. Additional testing throughout your pregnancy will be discussed at your prenatal visits. They include AFP testing for neural tube defects, ultrasounds to monitor the growth and development of the baby, and testing for gestational diabetes and group B strep.

What can I eat while pregnant?.
There are few dietary restrictions in pregnancy. You should avoid uncooked meat, soft cheeses, and limit consumption of certain fish. Pregnant and nursing women should avoid tuna, shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tile fish. The restriction is in response to concerns about mercury and PCB contamination.

Is it safe to paint the baby’s room while pregnant?
It is safe to paint with latex paint as long as there is adequate ventilation. Ladders should be avoided during your pregnancy.

Can I perm or color my hair while pregnant?
There is no evidence to suggest that hair color or permanents are harmful in pregnancy. We generally suggest waiting until after the first trimester. Be aware that your hair may not perm well during the pregnancy.
